"The I Yous Know" is a vocal by the American rock band Alice in Chains, and the start single from the band's sixth studio album, Rainier Fog, released on Baronial 24, 2018.[8] The single was released via streaming on May 3, 2018, accompanied by an official music video.[one] "The One You Know" spent 17 weeks on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart and peaked at No. nine.[nine]
Origin [edit]
Alice In Chains' guitarist and vocalist Jerry Cantrell explained the vocal to SiriusXM:
It's really aggressive, it'south got a super-aggro riff. I was thinking kind of a [David] Bowie when I was writing it a niggling fleck. So, it's got kind of a metal 'Fame' shuffle to it almost. Information technology'southward a good aggro riff, and it's got the archetype Alice in Bondage chorus, with a weird kind of trippy middle part.[five]
Asked about the inspiration backside the song during an intimate session for Chicago radio station 101WKQX at The Audio Lounge on May 15, 2018, Cantrell said:
It's e'er really difficult for me to lay out what it is. Crusade I'd rather you tell me… and not fifty-fifty tell me, it be whatever it is to you. And I'm also a little selfish also, I like to go along what it is for me also. The cool part of songwriting, I think, and the claiming of it is taking something personal that is internal and making it universally translatable to everybody. We're all man beings, so we're non that far apart, and nosotros're all pretty much the same, basically. So if you experience something and you put information technology out in a way that's not completely and so spelled out, I recollect it's easier for people to make it their own.[10]
For vocalist and rhythm guitarist William DuVall, the song is nearly "how things aren't ever what they seem".[11]

Good to have 'em back".[eighteen] Salute Magazine said; "the alt-metal warriors deliver a bad-ass monstrosity with larger than life vocals detonating ear drums in all directions. Not only does "The I You lot Know," secure that this album volition exist a promising one, but their intensifying guitar riffs, heavy-heart-pounding audio, and cornball fashion further proves that even 20 years later, they still got information technology."[xix] AXS stated; "Jerry Cantrell has e'er maintained the position that Alice in Chains was more a metal ring than a grunge ring and the guitar in this song leans more than to the side of metal. Nonetheless, with Cantrell's vocalism, this is a pure throw-back Alice in Chains track, dirty and bluesy."[xx]
The song peaked at No. one on Amazon'due south Best Sellers in Stone,[21] and at No. 21 on Amazon's Peak 100 Paid Songs.[22]
